ILLEX SQUID

Illex squid (latin name: Illex argentinus), mainly found in coasts of South America, is one of the most commercially fished species of squid.  The major fishing ground is along Argentina coastline and illex squid is caught by international fleets including Argentina, Spain, Taiwan, Korea, China vessels from January until May/June.

There are two ways of catching illex squid; one is by jigger, another is by trawler catch.  Both vessels produce illex squid by sea frozen.

The squid is widely used for human consumption and commercial bait.  It could be processed into tube, ring, strip, steak, tentacle for various kinds of cousins.  It also serves a good bait in whole round for long line fishing.
